Renaissance

Today is Easter, what Christians call Resurrection Day. I no longer consider myself very religious and have redefined what faith means to me; however I have not been able to fully divorce myself from my Christian upbringing. Resurrection themes run through my ethic like foundational threads of a beautiful tapestry. The metaphor of a new life emerging from loss, hopeless, despair and tragedy resonates so deeply…largely because I have lived those themes multiple times throughout my life. It is the reason being a therapist means so much to me.

Most of us experience times in our lives in which circumstances lead to us to feel enshrouded in shame, buried in sorrow and overcome by darkness that leave us with no hope in sight. I spent this holy afternoon watching the play ‘Cats’ on DVD. The musical tells the tale of a tribe of cats called the Jellicles and the night known as the ‘Jellicle Choice’ when they decide which cat will ascend to the Heaviside Layer coming back to new life.

No matter where you find yourself today, I want to remind you that this life is filled with opportunities for a new chance. Won’t you take the first step toward ‘a new life’ and begin a renaissance of your own?

“All that is gold does not glitter, Not all those who wander are lost; The old that is strong does not wither, Deep roots are not reached by the frost. From the ashes a fire shall be woken, A light from the shadows shall spring; Renewed shall be blade that was broken, The crownless again shall be king.” ― J.R.R. Tolkien, The Fellowship of the Ring
